Names of God: El Roi

In-Awe-Wonder-650

We’ll be looking at some names of God on the first week of each month.

This week, we are talking about the name El Roi, meaning The God Who Sees Me.

Scripture passages: Genesis 16:1-16; Genesis 21:1-21; Psalm 33:13-22; Psalm 121:3, 5-8; Psalm 139:1-18; Proverbs 15:3; 2 Chronicles 16:9; Matthew 5:8; Matthew 6:3-4

  • Alone, impoverished, and pregnant, Hagar found she wasn’t alone. God had seen her and her circumstances. God kept her and her son, Ishmael (meaning God hears), alive. God fulfilled His promise to her that her offspring would be multiplied and His promise to Abraham to make a nation of Ishmael because he was Abraham’s son.
  • God is faithful and trustworthy.
  • Even the hairs of our head are numbered; not even a sparrow falls to the ground without God knowing.
  • God watches over you. He is near, helping to guide you through situations and working out His plans for our future. (Mainly our current sanctification and our future redemption and glorification.)

I mentioned a song by artist Joel Engle based on Psalm 139. It is: You Are There (Psalm 139) from the album “Nothing Left of Me“. It is worth looking up a playlist of songs from that album on YouTube.
